For more than ten years I have been counselling and working with clients who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as individuals coping with the pressures of everyday life. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCPA).
I am primarily a cognitive-behavioral therapist with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University. I am also trained in several other approaches, including narrative therapy, EMDR and other trauma techniques.
Overall wellness is an important aspect of mental and emotional health and my approach with clients is warm and empathetic, goal-oriented and focused on your present concerns. I am positive and supportive as my clients work toward recognizing their own strengths and competencies.
In our counselling sessions we will focus on the thoughts underlying your feelings and behaviours and look at challenging negative beliefs as one way to promote change.
Generally, we will discuss your concerns and develop a plan that integrates different therapeutic approaches as needed. In the first session, you can expect the focus to be on what brings you to counselling and on working toward collaborating on some initial goals.
As it is common to feel somewhat anxious when seeing a counsellor for the first time, or when seeing a counsellor who is new to you, I offer a free and confidential 15 minute phone conversation to help you determine if I am the right counsellor for you.
